Format
1. Watch a short video about emotions.
2. Discuss the brain-body connection.
3. Learn about the amygdala and cerebral cortex through the “dog and owl” activity.
4. Discuss emergencies and non-emergencies through the “yappy dog or guard dog: activity.
5. Practice a variety of self-regulation strategies.
6. Play emotion charades.
7. Practice all the skills learned by participating in a “how would you feel” activity.
Objectives
Upon completion of this program, the student will be able to:
1. Name the functions of the amygdala and the cerebral cortex.
2. List the steps in order that occur in the brain body connection.
3. Analyze situations in which a person’s amygdala activates in non-emergencies.
4. Practice a variety of self-regulation techniques.
5. State the importance of speaking with a trusted adult in emotional situations.
6. List individuals who may be a trusted adult.
7. Match “feeling words” to specific situations.
