3. Students see how the immune system works normally and how HIV affects the immune system differently
4. Transmission of HIV is explained, (Sexual transmission of HIV is not discussed in this program)
5. It is stressed that normal day to day activities will not pass HIV
Objectives
Upon completion of this program, the student will be able to:
1. Identify what causes illness in the body.
2. State four important activities we need to do every day to stay healthy.
3. Name the body’s first line of defense against germs and viruses.
4. State that handwashing can prevent the passing of many germs and viruses.
5. Describe how the immune system helps the body fight infection.
6. State that HIV weakens the immune system
7. Name HIV as the virus that causes AIDS.
8. Identify 3 ways that HIV is transmitted.
9. List three examples of activities that will not pass HIV.
10. State two rules to follow if finding a needle or blood-covered object.
11. Identify one thing scientists are working on to help people with HIV.
12. Describe how a person with HIV should be treated.
