Format
1. The program begins with an introduction to the assassination of President Kennedy on November 22, 1963, the founding of the Museum and the organization's collection.
2. We will discuss the importance of the 1960 election in US history
3. We will look at photos, documents, commercials, songs and objects from both the Kennedy and Nixon campaigns and compare the two candidates.
3. After viewing and discussing these items, we will look at the candidates words on several topics that were important to the 1960 voter and see who the students would have voted for!
4. We will compare to what they are seeing in the 2016 Presidential campaign.
5. There will be time for Q&A throughout.
Objectives
The participant will:
1. Understand the mission of The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza.
2. Develop a familiarity with The Sixth Floor Museum's Collection by exposure to its artifacts and documents.
3. Understand the importance of the 1960 election in US History and
4. Engage in a discussion about the concept of a "modern political campaign".
5. Analyze rhetoric of several topics important to the 1960 voter and see which candidate students really would have voted for!
