This class expands on the rhythms and movement of the Flamenco Level One course, adding more complex rhythms and longer choreographic sequences. Delve deeper into Spanish history and culture with a lecture from Susana di Palma and give students the opportunity to apply what they’ve learned to create their own song to perform.

Program Details

Format

1. Short lecture on Spain's history and culture
2. Explanation of the Flamenco guitar
3. Work with students on rhythm with them clapping (palmas) and breaking into groups to work on counter- point rhythm.
4. Begin some basic movement with students
5. Learn a traditional Spanish song from the flamenco tradition
6. Perform the song with the dance
7. Create their own song to express a social or cultural theme in their lives in groups.

1. Learn the background and history of Flamenco through demonstration.
2. Learn complex rhythms that will be built upon with song and dance.
3. Learn about Spain’s history and culture and how the Flamenco arts brought different groups together.
