Culture and History of Los Angeles: Little Tokyo and Olvera Street

by  Banyan Global Learning

Program image

Los Angeles is home to many different people. Come join your host as he travels to the heart of Los Angeles to explore the culture and history of the early peoples of LA. At Olvera Street, see the birthplace of Los Angeles and learn about the Spanish and Mexicans who settled this land. That culture is alive today and you can see it in Olvera Street in the buildings, art and vibrant shopping. Near Olvera Street your host will visit Little Tokyo, the original home to Japanese immigrants in Los Angeles. Asian Americans came to the west coast and helped build our nation in the 1800s. Over time, their culture has become part of America's culture. Visit a Buddhist temple, a Sanrio store and find hidden artwork that showcases the uniqueness of Japanese culture.

Throughout the trip your host will ask your students what they see and how it compares to their own hometowns. This program will show students who we are as Americans. We hope to see you soon.

Banyan Global Learning is a virtual education content provider with a global network of innovative educators. Our live virtual programs connect learners to undiscovered places, new people and fresh ideas

Our programs are taught LIVE and on location (time zone permitting) with TWO teachers — one driving the lesson progression and the other engaging from the field. These dynamic programs are unlike any educational program you have experienced.

We have created a suite of virtual programs to reach all levels of learners in three main content areas: Social and Emotional Learning, Digital Citizenship, and Global Citizenship.

We love designing new programs, so if we don't currently have what you're looking for, just ask.

Banyan Global Learning believes in the power of live video to bridge cultural divides, expand empathetic thinking and prepare our students to navigate real life. We are mission-driven to create authentic connections that fulfill the needs of students and teachers alike.
