Meteorology - Storm Watch STEM Class

All students will explore the adventures of weather by viewing various weather instruments. Learn how clouds form and the weather they predict and watch a tornado spin with our tornado teaching column. Grade 4 and up will also track a hurricane by plotting latitude and longitude, wind speed and direction, and predicting the pattern of the storm. The materials for the project will be mailed to you based on the number of students indicated in your reservation. Students will make a handmade anemometer. All classes can be conducted in both English and Spanish.

This program includes a mailed project materials kit, please allow time for standard mail delivery. Additional session booked for the same calendar day are discounted to $195. An amended version of this program without the in-class project is available for $150 per 30-45 minute session. Any booking of the program for the 2020-2021 school year done before September 30, 2020 will receive a 10% discount.

Program Details

Format

1. This class begins with a discussion of what weather is and how it is created including the water cycle.
2. The educator will show a variety of weather tools and have the students guess what they are used to measure.
3. The students view two educator led experiments to demonstrate the movement of hot and cold water and how tornado funnels are formed.
4. The educator will lead the students through the anemometer project.
5. If time allows, we will take questions.
