Pack Like a Soldier - FREE

by  Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park

Program image

Though Union and Confederate soldiers may have been sworn enemies on the battlefield, many knew each other as friends, even family. However complex their relationships, the soldiers had about as many similarities as they did differences. Students will compare and contrast the two sides and discover personal affects they took to war; learning that the things we carry tell a story of our past, present, and future.

Program Details

Format

A park ranger will introduce the students to Kennesaw Mountain National Park. The ranger will then share artifacts and uniforms used by soldiers of the Civil War while leading students in a compare and contrast activity. The program will end with a Q&A session.

Objectives

Students will understand the significance of artifacts as they pertain to history, learn about the differences and similarities in how soldiers on both sides experienced the Civil War, and relate to those experiences by considering what personal affects the students themselves value most.
