Join musician and teacher Caleb Smith on an adventure around the world as we look at instruments from different cultures and how they are used in different forms of communication. The students will listen to excerpts of different artists performing with these instruments and learn a bit about the history of each instrument.

Program Details

Format

- This program generally begins with singing the hello song together
- We then discuss how percussion instruments have been used to communicate
- We will then go on a virtual adventure, listening to instruments from Japan, Mongolia, Romania, Ireland and Canada
- Afterwards, we will reflect on how each of these instruments worked differently to create emotions
- We will finish with questions and a closing song

Objectives

The participant will:
- explore different musical instruments around the world
- compare and contrast different emotions in music
- engage in a discussion about how music can be similar and different across cultures
- develop an appreciation for how music can affect everyone differently
