The U.S. Army Women's Museum serves as an educational institution, providing military history training and instruction to soldiers, veterans and the civilian community. The museum is the custodian and repository of artifacts and archival material pertaining to the service of women across all branches and organizations of the U.S. Army from inception to the present day. Program Details

Format

1. Introduce learners to the US Army Women's Museum
2. Learn about the background and creation of the Women's Army Corps in World War II
3. Introduce the WACs and the 10% women
4. The story of Charity Adams and her growth into a leader for the Black WACs
5. Introduce to the story of the 6888 and their story in WWII
6. Introduce the different stops of the 6888th and their jobs in Europe regarding the mail
7. Introduce learners to the tagline "Low Mail, Low Morale"
8. Discuss the life of Cressencia Garcia
9. Hear the stories of these women themselves
10. End with the legacy of the 6888

Objectives

The participants will explore the changing role of women, specifically black women during World War II and afterwards. Participants will engage in a discussion about the legacy of these women and what is happening with women in the military current. Participants will learn about women's roles in World War II and post-war. Students will understand the vast and lasting impact the establishment of the Women’s Army Corps had on many facets of American society. Students will gain a greater understanding of desegregation by analyzing primary source documents such as newspaper articles, political cartoons, facts, and photographs.
