This hands-on virtual program explores the forensic science technique of fingerprinting. Mob Museum educators explain the history of fingerprint analysis, the scientific method, and the use of fingerprinting in criminal investigations. Participants are then led through an activity in which they record and analyze the patterns of their own fingerprints.

Program Details

Format

This program begins by discussing the scientific method and Locard's Exchange Principle.
Participants then learn about the history of fingerprinting and the types of fingerprints.
Participants then record and analyze their fingerprints.
Participants then learn about the types of collected prints in forensic science.
Time is allowed for questions and answers.

Objectives

1. Participants will learn Locard's Exchange Principle and how it relates to the field of forensic science.
2. Participants will record and analyze their fingerprints and determine which print subtypes they possess.
3. Students will learn the history of recording and analyzing fingerprints and how they help in criminal investigations.
