Program Details

Format

This presentation uses a photo slideshow, video, and historical artifacts to guide participants through Las Vegas' Mob history. Student and adult audiences alike explore the role of organized crime in the city's development and explore ways that the government and law enforcement fought back.

Please note the student version of this presentation allows more time for developing and utilizing critical thinking and primary source analysis skills. The adult presentation is more conversational. Both versions of this presentation include some discussion of violence, criminal activity and gambling. The adult version also includes one uncensored violent image, which is censored in the student version. For more information, please inquire directly.

Objectives

1. Participants will understand the reality behind whether the Mob "created" the city of Las Vegas, and will be able to give examples in which the Mob was and was not involved.
2. Participants will be able to summarize how Las Vegas and the casino industry have evolved since the 1930s.
3. Participants will understand what skimming money is and will examine its consequences.
